Finishes booting then goes to blank screen before it gets to the login screen

I tried reinstalling it on my laptop and the first time everything goes fine. Then when I reboot my laptop the screen never goes to the login screen. Can anyone help?

Thanks

I've tried following a few other things in modifing the xconf file and nothing is working. It will run in text mode and I tried to reinstall and now it freezes on setting the system time.
Any Ideas?

Hello:
If you haven't already done this, try installing with adding the following to the boot: prompt
linux acpi=off

then hit enter and see how it goes

I tried installing FC5 and it did the same thing. Now I'm trying it wil the acpi=off typed in on the install. I was really hopeing to get it working this is a present for my wife and it is a brand new laptop. I thought that I wouldn't run into any problems.
I'll let you know if that owrks or not. Thanks

Hello:
Not too familiar with laptops, however, there are few things you can try.
It might be useful if you could post the type or cpu video card etc. that your installing on.
I am sure others have encountered something similar.
In the meantime you could give the below a shot.
Once again from your boot prompt add the following

linux mode=vesa resolution=800x600

this should help if it's video related problem.
If the above does not work then it may be related to your pcmcia device(s) , dunno just a guess at this point.
If so, try
linux nopcmcia
This will / should ignore any pcmcia controllers

Switch virtual terminals to Ctrl-Alt-F8

I noticed before that some laptops will switch virtual terminals if there is a timeout on one of the services that are set to start on boot -- it happend to me before when I screwed up my FQDN and sendmail timed out ...
