No video playback. FC6

Hi all!
This will be my first post in this forum.
I have only a couple a days ago installed Fedora and it's very promising. This is my first attemt at running linux instead of windows so I am a quite lost.
So far I have thanks to this forum desktop effects with beryl, mp3 working, mounts to my ntfs disks and dual boot working.
There is one problem though. When I play movies (mpg, avi, xvid etc) i only get sound no video, it's just blank.
I have tried different players, mplayer, xine, vlc and tried most of the codecs in mplayer. I also tried with desktop-effects turned off but nothing seems to work.
Nor do I have any video in firefox when I try to wach mov files like http://www.apple.com/getamac/
but you tube works.

Some help on this issue would be much appriciated.

Unfortunately I don't have the answer to your question. I have a similar problem when trying to view mov files, but only when they're embedded. In fact, I don't think I can watch anything but flash videos if they're embedded. Mplayer loads up and says its loading and then buffering the file, but when it gets to 99% it just stops and nothing happens. But mov files and all work for me if I download them first.

Installed fedora on my other machine yesterday but that one has a nVidia Quadro card and there wasno problem playing movies on that one. At least not H.264.
The tings that different on that machine from this one is that I installed the 64bit version and this one has i386.
As said the graphics card differ this machine has an ATI 9600. This machine also has Beryl installed but currently not running.
Tried to install the codecs again but no difference.

In mplayer, go to preferences->video, and select a different driver (Xv, X11, OpenGL etc)

Any different?

Yes!
Finally there is something showing up on the screen. It isn't right though.
With the xv driver I get blank
X11 gives an image to left about 1/5 in width and the rest is black.
OpenGL gives black and white and strange repeatings and gl2 is just black and white diagonal stripes.
Tried with dubble buffering and direct rendering but no difference.

Just got it working.
I forgot to try different codecs with the gl driver.
Seems like most of my videofiles can play now.
Thanks man!!

You might have to try the vesa driver for now, I have a 9600 running fine on 32bit FC6, but I haven't tried with the 64bit version.

If you want to try vesa the just edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and in the Section "Device" edit the line
Driver "vesa".

You can also try Driver "radeon", which may work.

Just press ctrl+alt+backspace to reboot the xserver.

Which driver do you currently use?

If you lose xwindows then hit ctr+alt+F1, and you'll be in a text window where you can login and reset the edits.

I'm running the "radeon" driver currently and that seems to work.
