I'd advise you the same than Jman: move to FC6, it is nicer. However if you can't try to install and use the OpenOffice.org provided in http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.5/index.html (it is legacy version 1.1.5 and hopefully will fit your system). I don't know what your problem is but once when I experimented problems too that solution worked.
From your error messages it seems like you have problems with your X server (you may try to reinstall it as well).
