Minimal boot, notes, media only, is this possible?
I have no idea how to search for this on the web, because all of my search's end up nothing like what I am talking about.
Problem: I have a laptop and I don't want to wait a few minutes and waste my battery power just to type a note, also I want to watch a movie but I don't want to boot the whole computer up just to do it.
The solution I am seeking: I would like to have an option, almost like a grub option that lets me boot a very minimal set of stuff, one to edit notes, maybe tomboy like or something, and the other to play media.
Does any one know if this is remotly possible or would this require starting from square one as far as building an OS?
P.S. The future of this could contain things like just checking emails, or showing photos, just with different grub options so that your computer didn't have to come all the way on to do one task and then go back off for the next few hours, like showing a co-worker some quick video at work, and then going back to work.
