Compiz crashing and how to disable

hi, I have fedora core 7 with livna nvidia drivers (nvidia 8600).

I turned on compiz via desktop-effects and its working but I cannot disable it as it freezes my pc solid although i can still move cursor but not even ctrl + alt + backspace rescues it. I just see a plain desktop with the panel at the top when it freezes.

I have some questions which are:

1. How can I fix or debug the problem with comiz/gnome freezing up?

2. How can I manually disable compiz so it doesnt load at startup?

Problem with that it will not remove it from startup properly i don't think. You have to disable it then remove the package! because i tried yum remove and rebooted and the window borders vanished.

Edit: I plan to try beryl and others once ive got this sorted.

Login as root and create another user account and see if it functions normally there. I've made it a point to create another user account just for scenarios like this one.

I found out how to disable compiz.. now how do I fix the problem with it freezing up when I shutdown or logout my computer? Gnome just freezes up... I havnt tried Compiz fusion or beryl.. I will try to squash that into my busy day eventually
