Can't login (no password prompt) and system logger fail

Hi all, my Fedora FC5 2.6.19 suddenly can't login since yesterday, after I type the username and press enter, it didn't pop up the enter password section, it happened to any user even root.

I have tried to login to single user mode and reset the password still the same, please help.

BTW all of the http, mysql, mail service working under background without any problem even can't login, but the system logger start fail.

edit /etc/inittab
change the default run-level from 5 to 3. Re-boot, then login and start with 'startx'

Hey, at least it'll get you around the problem. Won't fix anything though.

When the system boot in grub, I just press "e" and add "single" at the end of the boot command.
