US Judge Booted for flipping coin to Decide Case.

Now this is a good way to decide a case, just flip a coin....

Heh, When I first read the title I said to myself "gotta be Texas". Then when I read the article I see it's Virginia! What's even more interesting is he also ordered a woman to drop her pants! He also sat before a Judicial Inquiry for calling a teen a "momma's boy". This is the kind of loon that should have never been admitted to the bar let alone the bench.
5 'll get ya 10 he'll go through bit of counseling and appeal to get his job back.

Yeah theres that, but a draft could be a distraction in making a decision sans pants.

While I would not deny that the guy is a nut bar, I would say that (in the cases sited) it was not that bad. If two parents cannot figure out who gets custody of a child for Christmas somebody needs to show them how stupid they are being. A coin toss should have demonstrated that.

In the case of the pants dropping (at least the one sited) asking for proof of the stabbing was reasonable. That was not the way it should have been done. It did concern me when they referred to incidents and not incident.

I think one would be surprised how many judges keep a good old silver dollar.

I agree 100% percent with lazlow, what I read didn't sound that bad to me. People are babies these days.
The whole thing with confirming the wound, well he probably should have had a female officer confirm that for him, but whatever, big deal, like she's never been out in a bathing suit. Come on.

If I was him I'd appeal this decision. I definitely wouldn't apologize.

Judges have to decide on issues that involve people's property and freedom. They are required to maintain more decorum both in and out of Court than the guy on the street. Any decision should reflect that the Judge has considered both sides and made that decision based on facts, not the luck of a coin toss. Likewise, to order a member of the opposite sex to remove part of her clothing is certainly inappropriate behavior for an employer, much less a Judge.

Bring it. I ain't skeered..

As far as the coin toss, to me it seems a fair way to decide such an issue, any other way of deciding it would just be arbitrary.
If these two "grown ups" can't compromise then...

My only question regarding the "drop your pants" bit would be whether or not she said that she was uncomfortable with this when it happened, if so was she given any options or did she just do it and later complain.

Not to mention that if I was her lawyer, well let's just say that I would have pounced on this. As a lawyer this should be enough ammo to get your client off and then some.

Though I do agree with everyone here that as a judge he should have better "judgement".

If dies' wife or mother is hot, then I'm still ok with it. If they're not, then I'm as appalled as you are at this situation.

thanks,
