Update today, yum stuffed..

I used yumex to install some updates today, and now when I run yum or yumex I get the following, I am a bit of a newbie to Linux, can someone point me in the right direction to resolve this ???

[root@localhost ~]# yum

you never run yum by just typing "yum" it has to have at least one
argument:

yum update
yum update <packagename> for example yum update firefox
yum check-update
yum install
yum repolist

but it should have spewed that error output either, it should
have shown you a usage output telling you it needed
an argument

galaxian, I think we have the exact same problem. I started this thread here & I get the same error message as you. I think we need to figure out a way to remove yumex &/or yum & then re-install just yum.

marko - it shows this message with or without an argument.

lovswr - I tend to agree, but some other apps have yum as a dependency, last time I went down this route and removed the other apps I destroyed my system. I will update when / if I make any progress.

Regards,

Colin.

galaxian, it is fixed. Check out my bugzilla bug, comment #2. In my case it was a macromedia i386 repo that was 0 bytes. I just renamed it & all is well now.

Mine is fixed also, but I went a different route :-)

I tried rpm -e yum, and removed the pagages dependant on it, then yum, then installed an older version of yum.

tried yum update, and it updated lots of packages, but then the original error appeared :-(

Removed yum again and reinstalled, installed yumex.
Then did my updates, and it is all working now..

Will have a look at your solution when I get home from work.

Regards,
Colin.
