huawei USB-Modem install: Only one /dev/ttyUSB0

Modem huawei e220

I have got another Question in the welldiscussed problem huawei USB-Modem:

tail /var/log/messages when huawei e220 Modem is plugged in:
Nov 11 13:23:55 testplatz kernel: usb 1-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
Even when I plug off and plug in again (as it was recomendet in some hint) several times I can get only one /dev/ttyUSB0

When I restart the PC with the Modem plugged in, I can get ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1 and tttyUSB2 ok :-)

But starting wvdial:

How can I finde out why the Modem disconnects with pppd error 16?

I am having the exact same problem, I have tried disabling compression (/etc/ppp/options noccp, novj, nodeflate) and I still get the hangup. I had it all working perfectly under Fedora 7, upgraded to 8 and have had no end of trouble.
As for the devices, plug in the modem, you only get ttyUSB0, as root 'rmmod option', unplug the modem, replug, and you then get ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1 and the on board storage appears as a CD-ROM. Havent figured out how to do that automatically yet though
As I said earlier I had it working flawlessly under F7, I'm not sure what breaks in F8 though.
