Dell Inspiron 530's headphone jack question

Does anyone out there know if a Dell Inspiron 530 is designed so that when you plug headphones into the front it automatically stops the regular speakers? One would think this is a no brainer, and this was the way things were in my Dimension 2400, but the person at Dell had no clue what I was talking about.
