Fedora 9 hands during install in Transfer Install Image

I think this is started happening since the change to udev and the use of the device letters /sda or /dev/sdx for ide drives (in previous fedora releases i didn't have this problem, it started at version 8).., but it can also be about the ACPI and a buggy ACPI implementation in my bios (there's no bios update as this board is old), though i tried every ACPI trick during boot (acpi=off, noapi etc etc) and no luck.. this also happens when trying to install ubuntu latest can anyone help? My laptop is based in the kt400, with a AMD 2500XP and 1Gb of memory. The freeze happens when the install image is going to be transfered to disk ..
