Hi,
I have been fighting all day to get sound working on my new laptop with Fedora 9 but to no avail unfortunately.
I have tried several different things, like
- adding user to the pulse* groups
- tried different modprobe settings in modprobe.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer
tried also models medion, fujitsu, toshiba
Acer seems to give the "best" result, as it lists then the ALC268 and ALC883 in the list of devices in sound preferences. In those cases trying the test sounds shows that it is playing, but even then no real sound can be heard.
Of course I also checked the volume setting, tried external speaker jack, check external volume control (there isnt any on that laptop) etc

Thanks in advance for any tips that might help solve the problem.
