how do i get to work my microphone

i've used every guide possible none of them worked

if there is no way to get it to work please let me know

at least i'll stop trying to fix it.

What guides are you using? What are you trying, so I don't look like an ass.

I'm trying to be able to record voice through microphone, this could also help me in making VoIP calls through skype or gizmo ...

When i try to record voice through audacity it just hang on me, while using skype nothing can be heard on the other side.

I went through every single post in ubuntuforum related to it nothing worked, now i'm using F9 and i'm in the same spot...

What fedora version are you using?

I could tell you to do a lot of things, but I don't want to insult your intelligence.

I could tell you to go into a terminal by pressing "Alt+f2" and type xterm and type: "alsamixer"

Or I could tell you to go to "Applications" & "Sound & Video" & "PulseAudio volume control"

Or I could tell you to right click on the sound icon if your using gnome, and open volume control. Then Edit > Preferences > Then check the Microphone.

Or I could tell tell you to try "yum -y install alsa-tools" from a terminal, and run "envy24control" from a terminal if your soundcard is supported.

Or I could tell you to output your modules using "lsmod" so we could figure it out from there.

Or I could tell you to install Alsa.

Or I could tell you to customize your kernel by digging through the source and program your own device.

I don't think you can insult my intelligence (if anything it might be the opposite, at least in this domain) I'm fairly new to linux...

I'm using Fedora 9 gnome

Alsa & alsa-tools are installed.

envy24control = No ICE1712 cards found

if you need to see any output you will have to tell me where, what, how and i'll post it here...

Have ya tried this?

Right click on the sound icon if your using gnome, and open volume control. Then Edit > Preferences > Then check the Microphone. To me it seems to be the fastest solution. Get back tell me what's up.

Thanks. I try to avoid the terminal as much as possible.

But I don't know. Seems like a bug? Seems like alot of people have the same issues with HDA Intel.

I had same problem with Skype. I removed Pulse Audio and sound in Skype is working.
