Question VM WORKSTATION 6.x

Newbie here, well to Linux

I installed Fedora 9
Yummed the Virtualization

Installed the VMWARE Workstation, But can some one please tell me, how do I launch It.

I can not find an Icon or anything for it
When I go to the System Administration Add/Remove it says VMWARE is installed and only gives me the option to remove it

Thanks in Advance

Rich

Hey dude, sorry for hitchhiking on your post, but I also got a vmware workstation problem:
after installing it and configuring it, I try to run it on terminal but it keeps saying that it wasnt properly configured:

Code:
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.
Is there a special way to configure it?
im on the 2.6.25.14-108.fc9 kernel...
any1 got any Ideas?

Both of you need to run the vmware config script...
Code:
su -
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
I don't recall exactly what I had to do to get WS 6.0 on F9, but I think the any-any-117 patch is required. Reference here:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=192282

I *think* I did not need this patch with WS 6.5 Beta 1, if you want to use the 6.5 WS beta instead...

And Rich - ensure that you're not using the Xen kernel for this. Checking the "virtualization" box during install is not needed when using VMware.

I did run that, 4 times... No luck... Will check out that patch...

When you run the perl script listed above it should fail if there is a problem. You can post that output to us.

The script is probably going to compile kernel modules that need to be loaded to properly run the application, if its anything like the free vmware server application.

Since its going to complie kernel modules for you its going to need the development package for your kernel. Make sure for whatever kernel you have installed and running that you also have the kernel-devel package installed and that they both match. Keep in mind you might have several kernels installed on your system, you need the devel kit for the running kernel.
