How successful do you think

A company would be if it developed commercial quality games (that rival some of the best sellers of today) primarily for GNU/Linux? (then port them over to Windows)

I'm just curious to know what is everybody's take on gaming in GNU/Linux.

Would a lot of people actually buy the games who are in the Linux community?

A large percentage of the linux user base? Probably not. There are fair number of linux gamers, but many linux users simply do not play many games.

In addition, the target market place for linux is relatively small compared to windows. Lastly, there are a lot of linux distributions, making a game that works 100% on all of them would be somewhat more difficult then targeting windows.

A company that makes a game with more of a sideline in linux, similar to what many game companies do with mac versions, would be more likely to be successful.

I would have loved to say, "Oh yes absolutely!" Unfortunately that is reality as I see it.
