Trying to configure Dell Latitude 630 and docking station for Dual Head

Hello,

Have a Dell Latitude D630 Laptop and docking station with a Dell 17" VGA LCD display attached to the docking station. I recently installed fedora 9 and did a yum install update to bring everything current. I would like to use the laptop's built in LCD display and the docking stations attached LCD display concurrently as a extended desktop when docked and revert to a the Laptops LCD only when undocked. Right now the two monitors appear as cloned rather than extended. I first went through the Gnome desktop system>administration>display the video card displays correctly and the Dell built in LCD displays correctly so I don't think its a driver issue. In the display menu I selected dual head and set to span, but when clicking OK nothing happens. I browsed around Google for answers and found some references to dual head configurations for other systems with dual video cards and such and editing the xorg.conf file. Took some of these samples and played around with my xorg.cong file but with no luck. Any advice?

I just got a D630 and I got dual head working by installing the proprietary nvidia driver and used the Nvidia Display Settings found on the gnome System Tools to configure the dual monitor.

One problem I have is that the gnome panel seems to want to only reside on the external monitor. I haven't yet tried to hack the xorg.conf file that this utility generated. I still have some work to do get it just perfect.
