I have installed a new drive and I am not sure how to format it. It currently shows up as SCSI Drive and will not mount.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks

Ditto... Google is your friend.

So is your library card as just about every distro's how to book has a section on it.

Hello again BinaryBandit,

First, all drives "show up as SCSI" in Fedora. Since version 7, the IDE drivers use the same libata driver code as the SATA drivers. All drives in Fedora now get device names in this format: /dev/sda1. Not all distros do that yet, and that may be why you thought something was wrong.

Second, don't forget that if you are going to install an operating system on that new drive, the installer (be it Windows or Linux) usually will very easily partition and format it for you.

Third, if you are not going to install something there, then I recommend my favorite partition manager to you: the GParted LiveCD.

Hi stoat, and thanks.
I am planning to put Fedora 9 on this drive, auto formatting and partitioning was what I had hoped for however for me it did not turn out that way. which was the reason for my other post.
So I will go back to the other thread> http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=167302
and see what you told me to do there.
thanks folks.
