Hello again BinaryBandit,
First, all drives "show up as SCSI" in Fedora. Since version 7, the IDE drivers use the same libata driver code as the SATA drivers. All drives in Fedora now get device names in this format: /dev/sda1. Not all distros do that yet, and that may be why you thought something was wrong.
Second, don't forget that if you are going to install an operating system on that new drive, the installer (be it Windows or Linux) usually will very easily partition and format it for you.
Third, if you are not going to install something there, then I recommend my favorite partition manager to you: the
GParted LiveCD.
