Yum mirrors fail - Can't install or update

Hi,

I have been using fedora now for four or five years. Whilst I've had a few issues, getting yum to either update or install software has not been one of them.

I installed FC10 when it came out just before Christmas and it ran fine, this was an upgrade via the dvd from FC9.

Then last week maybe wednesday or thursday yum started giving me such as posted below -1

It seemed odd so I went onto the fedora IRC and was advised that it was most likely a bad mirror and it should fix itself in a day or two, it didn't. So over the weekend I did a clean install of FC10 hoping that that would fix it, it didn't. So thinking this problem was connected to FC10 rather than anything else I down graded to FC9.

I put FC9 on this morning and the thing still fails. I changed my dns to opendns because some suggested my dns was flaky, I commented out the mirrors and used the base urls but that fails -2.

It is now doing it on my other machine which has never given me any problem so I think my ISP is blocking something but others seem to think it has nothing to do with my ISP, qwest. I can browse to the mirror listed in the list below but yum hates it, what's going on?

All suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,

Andrew

Problem fixed!

I was told on the fedora IRC to

wget -U 'Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121622 Fedora/3.0.5-1.fc10 Firefox/3.0.5' http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...ata/repomd.xml
--2009-01-20 10:51:32-- http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...ata/repomd.xml
Connecting to 127.0.0.1:8118... failed: Connection refused.

This obviously pointed to the fact that a proxy was set, not by me but none the less. Qwest admitted that they were doing something with 127.0.0.1 on my router.

env | grep -i prox

showed

http_proxy=http://127.0.0.1:8118/
HTTP_PROXY=http://127.0.0.1:8118/

So after running

unset http_proxy HTTP_PROXY

All was fixed. I don't know how it got in there, I didn't set it but it's fixed now.

Thanks
