Re: Help with Directory Services

To anyone having this problem, this might save you some time:

The error message is extremely uninformative, which is a pain.

The root of problem is DNS. You must have working DNS on the server. This documentation states this, but not in detail.

Not only do normal queries have to work, but your own hostname MUST RESOLVE to your local ip-address. It is not sufficient to add the correct DNS-entries in /etc/hosts. This of course means that you need to configure named correctly.

Also, if you have already tried to make the dirsrv work before, be sure to clean out any malformed stuff the setup-tool have left behind. That is:

/etc/dirsrv/slapd-<servername>
/var/lib/dirsrv/slapd-<servername>
/usr/lib64/dirsrv/slapd-<servername>
/var/lock/dirsrv/slapd-<servername>
/var/run/dirsrv/*

Re: Help with Directory Services

Yes, the machine could not resolve the local hostname. As soon as I fixed this, I could install and configure the Directory without problems.

Thanks.
