FC10: Unable to mount LV in rescue mode

Hi,
I have a FC10 box which won't boot.
It's now booted off DVD into rescue which wasn't able to find the system to mount in /mnt/sysimage.
It's an out of the box default install with all the LVM horror etc - with the system on a single sata drive for the system. Homes are on separate disks which are not the issue.

pvscan, vgscan and lvscan all show the right stuff (after activating the VGs)

ls -l /dev/VolGroup00 shows all the LogVolxx linked from /dev/mapper/...

I can mount and umount /dev/sda1 which is boot on a directory such as /mnt/foo just fine.

However, any of the following result in "no such file or directory". The mount point does exist so I guess it's referring to the device.

mount /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/foo
mount -t ext3 /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/foo
mount /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 /mnt/foo
mount -t ext3 /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 /mnt/foo

I'm just about to try fsck on the LV device - but this is a little slow since the box is in another country and I don't have console access. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...lies/frown.gif

Any other clues?

That's not good. I would try doing it from a LiveCD instead (vgscan, vgchange -ay, then try mounting LogVol00)

Tried e2fsck - get "root is not a directory". Ouch.

Then all the inodes unraveled into lost+found. So I blew the system drive away and started again.

Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

You may want to check out this post. It shows how to unwrap (or wrap) all of the LV layers -- so that you can discover and mount LV's.
