Unhappy Whether I can saving my system, lost MBR and partition table ?

a foolish mistake!!!! ,

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1

( exactly method is "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=446 count=1" , equal to DOS bootup and run command : fdisk /MBR )

so , I lost my partition table,

>>>>> fall over <<<<<<

I bootup system with RH CD1 into rescue mode, bu system told me

can't find partition table so can't chroot /mnt/sysimage

who can tell me whether my system can be save ??

pls help me , thx.

Well, you can boot with knoppix and then see if you can repair the table.

you can try knoppix/gnoppix, but if the rescue cd said your screwed, your screwed. you didn't just kill you boot partition, you killed all your partitions. /dev/hda is the collective name of the disk, not just an individual partition like /dev/hda1. why were you funbling around as root anyway? if you have critical question you should asked them in this forum befor you try out your idea as root. you are generally never ever supposed to be root unless absolutely necessary. I guess you learned the hard way.
welcome to linux and the fedora community.

your right imdeemvp, linux comes with several forensic disk tools. even the kernel give you direct ascces to the disk. wo theoretically, you could recover the system, but if your a newbie and you don't have any important data on that system it would be much easier to reinstall, unless you think you up for the challenge
