Re: YUM: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedo

The "sed" command worked for me on Fedora 14, on which I was having the same issue. The fact that this has been going on since Fedora 11 is ridiculous.

Re: YUM: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedo

I recommend using these 2 commands if you are still having problems. It seems like there is a new update to rpmfusion-free-release.noarch and rpmfusion-nonfree-release.noarch packages that you can only get through doing this.

This switches mirrors.
Code:
su -c "sed -i 's|^#baseurl|baseurl| ; s|^mirrorlist|#mirrorlist|' /etc/yum.repos.d/rpmfusion*free*repo"
This puts the mirrors back to normal.
Code:
su -c "sed -i 's|^baseurl|#baseurl| ; s|^#mirrorlist|mirrorlist|' /etc/yum.repos.d/rpmfusion*free*repo"

LOL wow. I fixed this by connecting to the internet. There goes 45 minutes of my life...

Just in case you missed it, I was getting this error because I wasn't connecting to the internet.

Well, I'm not going to read the previous pages of this thread, and you didn't specifically say what you have tried already, but I recommend that you enter some DNS nameserver IP addresses in NetworkManager (or whatever is controlling your interface). If you want to try that idea for NetworkManager, then the link below has the steps for entering OpenDNS's nameservers. The steps are for Ubuntu, but they work in Fedora (except ignore step #8). You can substitute other nameserver addresses (say, your ISP's) for OpenDNS's if you wish. Anyway, it's an easy thing to try and reverse.

Re: YUM: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedo

I had a similar problem the other day. Commented out gpgcheck=1 in /etc/yum.conf with a #, ran 'yum clean all', then Yum ran fine and updated everything. Afterwards set /etc/yum.conf back to how it was before and Yum is now working as it should. YMMV
