<...Error Log...>
I had exactly the same problem and tracked down the problem to this line:
Code:
Jun 11 22:34:45 server NXSERVER-3.3.0-22[2576]: ERROR: (exception id D5AEF069) NX> 596 xauth: /home/xAdmin/.nx/C-server.craneworks-1002-D3C6BCF9025848BC852D37EAF22FD03D/scripts/authority:3: bad display name "server.craneworks:1002" in "add" command
First I must say that I'm running my installation in a virtual machine but I think that doesn't matter.

Problem: I found out that the hostname I enter at the installation wasn't added to the /etc/hosts file. There were only the default entries for localhost/localdomain.
So the DNS server (see /etc/resolve.conf which is generated by the network manager) couldn't resolve my hostname which is needed for xauth.
You can check this by traceroute your hostname (note nslookup or host won't work because they ignore /etc/hosts).

Solution: I just added my hostname to the /etc/hosts file, checked it with traceroute and connected via nxclient from my windows host.

So adding server.craneworks to /etc/hosts should solve the problem for you.

Regards
GG

Thanks! That took care of it.

To be clear, I changed my /etc/hosts from

Code:
127.0.0.1		localhost.localdomain localhost
::1		localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
to

Code:
127.0.0.1		localhost.localdomain localhost my_simple_hostname_here
::1		localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
and now NX works as usual.

I had a similar problem that I solved (kinda) by adding my simple-hostname to /etc/hosts. But a little digging around in FedoraForum suggested that the appropriate solution was to change my simple-hostname to a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name).

So for me, the change went from "Eng-Lab-010" to "Eng-Lab-010.localdomain". I then took "Eng-Lab-010" out of /etc/hosts and things are now working.

Just a thought. I'm still learning

I have problems with nomachine as well - newbie here and using a fresh install of Fedora 11. I have done nothing with it yet except to install nomachine. I would like to access this machine from my Windows XP machine.

Got instillation to work using yum.

First problem was the same 596 problem reported below. And I think I got past that by the same solution, to modify the /etc/hosts file and add my machine name (mercury).

Q: If I have assigned a fixed address of 192.168.1.200 to the Fedora machine, should the hosts file be,
192.168.1.200 localhost mercury.localdomain
::1 localhost localhost.domain

Q: What does the "::1" do? I will look that up later.

Making the change above I got further along into the connection process - no more 596 error. But now I get the error "Could not yet establish the connection to the remote proxy"

The log on the unix machine looks like,
Code:

You're using NoMachine, which has a user limit of 2 active users on their free software package. Install and use freenx, it doesn't have a limit, though it is a bit less user friendly. You can still use the NoMachine client (I do, it's more polished in my opinion).

The only solution to this problem while continuing to use NoMachine is to upgrade to their paid product.
