HAL daemon stopped in F11 x86_64

Hello everyone,

Is anyone else having problems with hal in F11 x86_64? I assume it is supposed to be running, but it is stopped (service --status-all shows 'hald stopped').

Running hald from root doesn't help; it just crashes.

It may (or may not) be the cause of my problems with X, which stubbornly refuses to work whatever I try (see the plea for help in the X86_64 forum). Certainly, every attempt I have made to start X has been met with failure and messages about unable to start HAL. I should mention that X starts (in as much as I get the desktop), but spews out messages ad-infinitem and the keyboard and mouse cease functioning - presumably because they want to talk via hal.

Anyone's help is appreciated. I've been trying all sorts of things for days, all of which have so far come to naught. Aside from X, the rest of the system seems healthy. But I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting access to a GUI!

Thanks,
Paul
