how difference about kmod & akmod ?

i use fedora 11 and i try to install Nvidia driver at first time i in stall from nvidia guide
su
rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...ble.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfr...ble.noarch.rpm
yum install kmod-nvidia-173xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs.i586 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs.x86_64
reboot

but i can't use Desktop effects it could not enabled . and i use command again of akmod .
su

yum install akmod-nvidia-173xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs.i586 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs.x86_64
reboot
i reboot and i can't login the desktop it black screen . then i reinstall again .
now i want to know what is correct way to install Nvidia driver how i can do first ?
and how is difference between kmod and akmod ?
please tell me by step to install .
