How to get the path of the executable from something in the menu

In gnome, if I go to Applications -> Internet -> SomeProgram, how can I tell the name of the executable that is launched? In the past I've opened 'top' and then run the program and watched it flash on the top of top, but it seems like there should be something like a "right click->application path" or something.

Can anyone comment?

Thanks,
Dave

What I do is right-click on the item in the menu I want and select "Add to Desktop"

Then on the desktop I right-click on the icon and go into properties. I think it shows up there.

Sure, that's if you already know the name of the executable. But for example, ggl-qt is the name of the google gadgets executable, and I couldn't tell that just by seeing "Google Gadgets (Qt)" in the menu.

ah, that does it dragonbite - thanks. It seems like there should be "properties" in the right click menu even in the applications menu though.

Right click on one of the menus. select Edit Menus, find the item you\re interested in by navigating the menu hierarchy, right click on it and select Properties.
