VLC - Audio playback is jerky

Dear Fed. friends

I've got this problem with VLC which plays audio in a very bad quality. the sound is jerky and has lots of gaps (no sound) in between. this happens when playing both video and audio with VLC.
by the way, the audio payback with Totem is just fine. could anyone please help me find out the problem source?

I only have this problem with .rmvb (real) files.
What kind of files are you playing?

Install Mplayer, best video player for linux in my opinion.

it happens when I play any kind of media (video or audio) including MPG, MP3, AVI, FLV ...

Go to Tools->Preferences and change Audio Output to Simple DirectMedia Layer
