DVD Writer issues...

Anyone need a DVD Writer that will NOT work?

I'm about ready to throw this machine across the room. I paid good money for this DVD writer and now it will not write an ISO file to a CD-R.

I'm using Nero 6. The drive is a LITEON iHAS324 A. Everytime I try to burn Nero says "Communication Error".

What do I do?

kona, try this http://www.imgburn.com/ . nero is bloated crap

try this site about the error , but seemss like it maybe a driver issue http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823299

http://www.google.com.au/search?q=Co...ient=firefox-a

maybe your BIOS needs updating? or try installing an updated DVD burner driver

Thanks anyhow Demz but I do come across a site that said to use the satndard Windows IDE controller drivers. I had been using Nvidia IDE controller drivers. I rolled back the drivers to Windows drivers and now all is well. I burned a copy of Fedora 11.

On a side note sometimes Windows will boot then get stuck trying to bring up the desktop. Is that a driver issue or a motherboard dying?

If you were not using the writer frequently, then it might be a dust on its lens issue. I learned with experience that in order to get a DVD writer working one must use it frequently (say once in at least every 2 days), otherwise it will just start giving crap.
