Facebook Chat in Empathy

Has anyone been able to successfully use Empathy to chat in facebook with?

I've been looking for a way to install all the proprietary chat protocols easily but haven't found one.

Problem Facebook is not in the list of protocols.

Solution:

Assuming you're running Empathy 2.28 (or a very late 2.27 release that uses Mission Control 5), you can try this workaround:

* Install the pidgin-facebookchat plugin;

Remove the haze.manager file: sudo rm /usr/share/telepathy/managers/haze.manager
* Quit Empathy, kill Mission Control — pkill mission-control-5 — and restart Empathy; you should see Facebook in the list of available protocols.

Check the freedesktop.org bug tracker for outstanding bugs involving Telepathy and Facebook chat.

Hey Demz, thanks for the copy n paste response from their site, but there's a couple of problems with that. One, some of us are noobz, meaning I don't know WHERE to "install" the Facebook protocol from Google Code and second, we're not running 2.27.x or 2.28. I got mine from the Fedora repo and it's 2.26.x

The bug repot, they mentioned has some information (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17907), but I'm still in the dark.

* Install the pidgin-facebookchat plugin thats a pidgin Plugin, just install that , an follow the directions

su -
yum install pidgin-facebookchat

plugin which will install into Pidgin, then follow the directions above

Empathy in Gnome2.26 was pretty crap anywya, stick with Pidgin
