sound only working on headphone connector

Weird problem. Sound works fine if i put a headphones into the mini jack socket. If i take it out, sound doesn't work through the speakers. I played around with the Sound properties (in menu Preferences), setting it to various types, but to no result.

edit: forgot to mention that this only happened after i preupgraded from F11 -> F12

possible solution

I believe there is a setting you can make to hear the sound on the speaker:

click on System / Preferences / advanced volume control

Look at the attached screen-shot, especially what I have underlined in red

I have exactly the same sound problem after an installation of F12. But my 'System / Preferences' has no 'advanced volume control'. Do I need one or more extra packages?

The "advanced volume control" was a package called gst-mixer. It was there until F11, but was dropped from Fedora 12. I am also wondering if there is any replacement for that now...

Found it. Run
Code:
alsamixer -Dhw
and unmute the Front speaker using the arrows and 'm' key.
