Very slow nfs performances with avi files

Hello folks,

I 've just installed fedora 12 386 on my DIY nas.
It's not a powerful one, it's just a via artigo a2000 with 2gb ram, 1 gigabit nic and raid 1 with 2 wstern digital tera disks.

I 've noticed a funny thing...

I export via nfs some lvs, which they live on a raid 1, as said.

I export few directories, each of them are on different logial volumes.

Performances are not bad at all, of course it depends on the size of the file as well.

But I 've noticed the avi files are 1/10 slower than .iso, .mp3, jpegs, etc...etc...( basically 1gb isos or mp3s are 10 times faster that an 700 MB avi ). I am doing this with nautilus, trying to copy from the server to my computer, which is an acer l320 with fedora 12 and 1 gigabit network card as well.

Is it possible an avi file is so tricky compared to mp3s or jpegs ?

p.s. both are connected with 1 gigabit netgear switch.

Thanks in advance guys.

Tommy
