Empathy AIM network connect error + pidgin icon issue

I couldn't connect to aim at all using pidgin and empathy. I fixed it in pidgin by disabling client login, Empathy however does not have this option. I tried using these commands to disable it but mctool segfaults whenever I try it. (fedora says telepathy-control-center crashed)

Code:

mc-tool update <aim account name> bool:use-clientlogin=false

I'd like to use pidgin instead if empathy wont work, but a seperate issue is REALLY annoying me, the systray icon has a grey background instead of being transparent, anyway to fix that?

Oh and I forgot change the server port to 5900 under advanced for the account. You can also use this code.
