c compiler can not create executable files while installing madplay

what my intension is i want to cross complile vlc source code into arm9 mini 2440 target board for that i am compiling vlc source code in intel desktop pc which has fedora 10 version. so that in order to compile vlc source code we need to install following codecs those are libmad 0.15.1b,libid3tag-0.15.1b,madplay-0.15.1b,i got these codecs from http://www.underbit.com/products/mad/ .and vlc sorce code from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-sources.html. i have successfully compiled libmad 0.15.1b and libid3tag-0.15.1b . those two are compiled in the following way
[color]
./cofigure --prefix=/home/narendra/lib/
make
make install
[/color]

i was trying to compile madplay-0.15.1b in the following way

Code:
./configure --prefix=/home/narendra/madplay-0.15.1b CPPFLAGS="-I /home/narendra/lib/libmad-0.15.1b/include/" LDFLAGS="-L /home/narendra/lib/libid3tag-0.15.1b/lib/"
after this command i keep getting this error message

Re: c compiler can not create executable files while installing madplay

you have a permission error:

Quote:
cc1: error: /home/narendra/lib/libmad-0.15.1b/include/: Permission denied
check the owner/permissions on this directory.

also you have used CPPFLAGS when you should have used CFLAGS, if you really are using c++ then make sure gcc-c++ is installed. (edit) ignore that, I was thinking of CXXFLAGS.

also, if you are cross compiling for arm you need an arm compiler toolchain in your path and you configure using something like:

Code:
./configure --host=arm-linux

i have checked with rpm -qa |grep gcc ,i noticed my linx has following c++ versions
[narendra@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa |grep gcc
libgcc-4.3.2-7.i386
gcc-4.3.2-7.i386
gcc-gfortran-4.3.2-7.i386

Re: c compiler can not create executable files while installing madplay

to check permissions and owner on the directory do

Code:
ls -l /home/narendra/lib/libmad-0.15.1b/include/

Re: c compiler can not create executable files while installing madplay

there may be a permission problem further up the directory tree (either owner is wrong or one of the directories doesn't have execute permission), try

Code:
find /home/narendra/lib -type d -exec ls -ld {} \;

Re: c compiler can not create executable files while installing madplay

Those last errors sound like a tar file restored by root - and the ownership of the
files happens to be root.

As root you will need to change the ownership using
chown -R narendra:narendra /home/narendra/*

This will set the owner and group of all files in the narendra directory excluding
only the "." files which should already be owned by the user.

while i was typing this command

Re: c compiler can not create executable files while installing madplay

you shouldn't be root when building packages, and you don't need to be root if you are installing in your home dir (ie if running ./configure with --prefix set to a dir in home)

Build as user narendra, and run make install as user narendra if that's what you want, but then specify the location of the installed packages when configuring the next step (run ./configure --help to see options for specifying includes and libs)
