Safe way to install Python3 on FC12?

Can yum or rpm be used to install Python3 on a Fedora Core 12 system without having Python3 become the default instance of Python ? ( which would create havoc with all the Python2.6 scripts that are in use on the machine).

Yes - and I would think yum would be the safest way to install Python3. The two versions have been designed to coexist when properly installed, and yum probably knows how to do that. Going outside the fedora repos could lead to trouble in this case.

Hi,

Even if you compile from source, Python 3 will be named python3, so no, it will not conflict with the default python 2 install...

thou, in my case I seem to lose idle (python 26)... idle3 replaces idle if compiled from source (I am good with python 3k so yeah...)
