Difference between beta and final release?
I would like to install the 14-beta version and have downloaded it from the fedora website today. Is it any difference between the current beta version and the final version? Can the beta version update after installation as exactly as the final version?

The final version will have more up to date packages and testing.
If you do install the beta version and run the update process it will be the same as the final build.

Re: Difference between beta and final release?
I just burned the beta F14 into a DVD and tried to install it on my Thinkpad T410s notebook. However, after several steps, I just got a black screen and the installation seemed to stop.

A beta is not for productive work.

You may need to search for install help for that machine. Lots of advice in this forum should get you going.

Re: Difference between beta and final release?
I used a 'nomodeset' as an boot option and the installation can be done and completed. But after reboot, the screen just had a poor resolution of 848x600. My display actually has a resolution of 1440x900. F13 can recognize my graphic card correctly. Why does F14 cannot? Also, there is no system-config-display package installed.

Re: Difference between beta and final release?
What sort of graphic card? Often updates break NVidia (and sometimes others).
Best bet is to search for your graphic card model on these forums, though as F14 is quite new, there might not be a solution yet. You can find out what it is with
lspci |grep VGA

Re: Difference between beta and final release?
I have seen that happen before. After the installation is updated, I have found the drivers in the update packages and then installed them and all is fine. There are several video cards that need special attention and there are install guides for them. If yours worked under F13 then I would think it will work with F14 after the proper drivers are installed, I am not currently working with any laptops so I am not sure where to point you from here.

A great resource for nvidia:

I am not sure if it is updated for F14 - yet.

Re: Difference between beta and final release?
If I were you, I'd get RC1 here:
http://serverbeach1.fedoraproject.or.../stage/14.RC1/
and see if that works without messing about with nomodeset. It uses a rather newer version of nouveau with several fixes since Beta.
system-config-display is dead in F14, because no-one wanted to maintain it any more.

Thank you very much! I'll try that version.
If the system-config-display is dead, with what can we set the display?

Re: Difference between beta and final release?
I suppose it is possible that the final version COULD potentially have subtle differences in setup scripts during the installer / configuration process, but I would agree that it is unlikely to happen. The updated beta ought to and has always been as good as final for me.
