get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

fedora 13,
last night I installed get_iplayer v2.78 and everything worked fine, I downloaded a couple of videos from the bbc website. The following morning I'm trying to do exactly the same thing but getting the following failure:

The scroll shows that flashhigh1,flashhigh2,flashstd1,flashstd2 modes all fail. I trtied deleting swfinfo but it made no difference. Tried turning off the firewall but no difference. I heard about flvstreamer but Fedora doesn't recognise it. I checked I have plenty of free drive space. I then watched the process in wireshark and saw the following entry three times in a row:
Destination: a122.vi5g8.akafms.net...Destination unreachable (Host administratively prohibited). I'm not sure how to resolve this so thanks for any pointers.

Yes, I face the identical problems as you met now.
I installed get_iplayer yesterday, now it doesn't work.

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

Hi all,

This is my first post.

I am having exactly the same problem under Windows.

It looks like BBC have somehow blocked get_iplayer. Hope someone can fix it............

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

It was on my PVR list and when I ran PVR it was the only file that would download. Not sure what's going on.

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

yes I'm not sure what's going on either, I tried something simple this morning (bbc weather) flashvhigh and n95_wifi worked but nothing else.
I've also noticed there has not been an ipod (480x272) version available for a few weeks for anything, I downloaded "how not to live your life" when it was first on (couple of months back) as ipod version but the repeat which is available again now does not have an ipod version bbc cutbacks ?
keep checking here for an update http://www.infradead.org/get_iplayer/

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

Hello
well it would appear that get_iplayer is still actively maintained, see http://git.infradead.org/get_iplayer.git only 3 days ago, second one down " Remove iphone mode from default modes list" there you have it iphone version does seem to have been dropped by the bbc.
I installed the latest git snapshot and tried it yesterday, still no joy, the other possibility is it's a problem with rtmpdump, so I think we'll just have to wait and see if anyone can fix, possibly the best piece of software ever
EDIT: just tried live streaming which works again

Everything was fine up until the middle of last week then it appears to have stopped. Any thoughts

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file (solved for windows)

Hi All,

get_iplayer (for windows) now working for me after:

Uninstall get_iplayer.

Download latest release 2.79

Install all components.

Delete SWINFO file

Found in C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXX\SWINFO File

Where XXXXX is your user name.

Good Luck.

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

Strange how many windows users found this forum
Linux users, I downloaded 2.79 from here ftp://ftp.infradead.org/pub/get_iplayer/ right click on the file > extract here > right click on the extracted file > open terminal here, copy, paste this
Code:
chmod 755 get_iplayer
then
Code:
su -
password
cp /home/scooby/get_iplayer-2.79/get_iplayer /usr/local/bin/
I still got the same error so, I'm not sure what the linux equivalent to C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXX\SWINFO File is so I just went to my home folder and into .macromedia and deleted any file with bbc in the name and it's now working fine again

Just wanted to say thanks for this - it worked for me in fixing the same error that simplification described. Not sure if it was deleting the Flash temp files or updating to v2.79 which did it, but the combination of the two worked.

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

2.79 doesn't fix anything for me - the ONLY way to use it now is to compile flvstreamer, although that seems to result in a joggy file at the end due to all the crypto errors.

Re: get_iplayer: Failed to stream file

Hi
have you tried the rtmpdump from the repos, 2.3 is the latest, also I think I found the linux equivalent to SWINFO there's a hidden file in my home directory .swfinfo containing this
Code:
url: http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/10player.swf
ctim: Mon, 10 Jan 2011 19:44:50 GMT
date: Mon, 05 Jul 2010 14:58:49 GMT
size: 000f9c9b
hash: 756ef5b1b33f59e88680ba06bcbc967e34468c82119df9e3789965513e7e57f5
I'd make a back up, delete it and see if that helps
