Converting .flac to a iTunes compatible format

I have been searching for a while for a program to convert .flac files I rip off of cd's with my laptop (running Fedora 11) to a usable iTunes format for my desktop (running Win XP). The cd drive on my desktop is currently broken, so my fix of ripping on my desktop, then using Rhythmbox on my laptop is temporarily unavailable.
Any suggestions? I've tried audiokonverter, soundconverter, audio-convert-mod and each come up with errors or wouldn't install. Thanks in advance.

Re: Converting .flac to a iTunes compatible format

There are several audio format conversion programs available. The one I like is audio-convert-mode. Nice and simple. Here's a screenshot of the formats supported.

As I understand it, that would be more of an editor than converter, right?

And do you have the RPMFusion repos installed and have you installed the various codecs from there in order for it to work?

I guess not. Would you know of a handy guide to walk me through it?

Sure, just look at the top of the forum page, click on the yellow "Fedora Set-Up Guides" link and you should be on your way.

Re: Converting .flac to a iTunes compatible format

Hello
what's currently causing problems is the implementation (licencing issues I think) of aac (the codec itunes uses) you've got a couple of choices, I've just tried audio-convert-mod which works fine you need to install faac or you could use ffmpeg, you will need to install this version http://dnmouse.org/forum/download/file.php?id=382 with aac built in, then try this command
Code:
ffmpeg -i ~/Music/input-file.flac -ac 2 -ar 48000 -acodec libfaac -ab 128k ~/Music/output-file.m4a
-ac 2 is stereo -ar is the frequency and -ab 128k the bitrate.
going from flac to aac should result in much smaller files so if hd space isn't an issue bump the bitrate right up to say 256k, and remember once it's been compressed (aac, mp3, ogg) at say 128k you can never go back (quality wise) to anything higher
oops just noticed you're running fedora 11, try this one I built for fedora 12 http://dnmouse.org/forum/download/file.php?id=352 should be more compatible with older libs
