Samba public share issue

Hi!

I wan't whatever file/folder that ends up in the public folder to automaticly be open to whosoever access that folder. Right know I have to "chmod -R 777 file/folder.* " This is annoying and makes the public folder a joke to maintain.
I guess this is quite easy to solve.

Re: Samba public share issue

I believe there is a "mode=" option that can be used to define the default
mode for files created. Since this is a wide open server with no security,
this shouldn't be that difficult.

Sorry - wrong words:

security mask = 0777
directory security mask = 0777

Ok this is a part of my smb.conf. Its not working as intended.

[Public]
comment = Delt mappe alle kan bruke
path = /home/public
read only = no
public = yes
writeable = yes
browseable = yes
create mask = 777
directory mask = 777

Changed it to this and still not working.

Re: Samba public share issue

Try man smb.conf or yum install samba-doc or access the literature at samba's website. Basically you need; create mask, force create mode, directory mask, and force directory mode to do it. However you can also set the defaults on the filesystem. Your choice. Also you should force the owner & group for consistency.

Re: Samba public share issue

Thanks problem solved.

force create mode = 0777

Owner for the file was then changed to nobody and command ll showed rwxrwxrwx for all files that was pushed in there. Brilliant.
