Battery not charging on FEdora 15 i686 with dell inspiron 1525

Background picked up a nook, brought it home to nooter and plugged into usb on laptop placed laptop down death. Come to find out the charger is bad so I got a new one I knew my battery was shot so I got a new one as well. So now I just noticed that my battery is not charging and it reads at 35% but on the gnome icon it looks to be charged and is not charging at all. So I really need help solving this because otherwise I just have a lap/desktop and wasted money on a battery.

what does the battery monitor in the BIOS tell you.

boot into the BIOS (hold down F2 when you turn it on and boot) and navigate to the battery status page.

monitor that over a couple of hours. It's normal for a new battery that has been in storage for awhile to take a long time to initially charge.

Also, you do have the correct power adapter for your machine? (Dell PA-12/YT886)

Yeah I did that sorry didn't mention it said unknown ac device or something to that nature

Usually battery charging is the responsibility of the firmware in the laptop, this is outside the control of the operating system. That is, there's little the OS can do wrong or right to 'break' battery stuff. More likely it would help to update the bios or the firmware.

However, the GUI desktop widgets can misinform you about battery information if they have coding errors.

yeah I read for like 2hrs on similar issues on that and looks to be this dang laptop.

SONY (mine) and others use proprietary batteries. I believe Dell does as well. Is it a Dell battery? They make it so you HAVE to buy theirs.
