Re: Fedora 14 and Sun JDK install problem

Try this guide instead: It's slightly older but accurate. When you get to step 4, opt for #2 and configure the java command with alternatives, as described by your guide at step 4a

Re: Fedora 14 and Sun JDK install problem

Well my problem is that I can not past step 2, which ever guide I use, as it ends up with message I showed above when I press Enter.

Re: Fedora 14 and Sun JDK install problem

Maybe it's a problem with the 64 bit version. Which version of the SDK are you trying to install, 1.6.0_24?

---------- Post added at 06:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:15 PM ----------

Make sure you're installing the right version for your architecture. Funny thing is line 94 is the registration step, so the software should be installed... Try disabling SELinux also. If everything fails, try downloading again

Re: Fedora 14 and Sun JDK install problem

I usually use the guide here, always works for me (using "Using Sun (Oracle) Java Instead" part)

Have you managed to workaround the problem? I am getting the same error!

Re: Fedora 14 and Sun JDK install problem

I've managed to go through the whole installation process by adding "-noregister" as an argument when executing the installer. I believe I have a fully usable installation as I have already executed some java programs (jboss and jvisualvm) without any problems.

The drawback is that I don't get to register the product but I couldn't care less. I hope this helps!

Re: Fedora 14 and Sun JDK install problem

It means that is installed and it couldn't be installed again. If you want to reinstall, you'll have to uninstall first. Unfortunately, I haven't a 64 bit version available so I can't reproduce the error

The only thing the register step does is fire off a Firefox process to that oracle register page for Java, you can just kill off Firefox or go browse somewhere else. I've been able to install java just fine by ignoring the register page shown on firefox that it launches (I just close the firefox and continue with the Java install)

Maybe the oracle installer isn't gracefully coded to handle the client host not having a standard browser defined or a network connection. Seems unlikely with all the testing but their might be a odd mix of conditions going on with the OP's case.
