Rhythmbox isn't detecting my MP3 players

Howdy... I'm using rhythmbox as my music manager of choice... but it's not detecting one of my MP3 players. Admittedly its a relatively unknown brand name. It picks up my creative zen mp3 player without issues. Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated. Is there anything else I can do to make it a little more compatible? I already have the "portable players" boxes checked in the configuration menu.

Also, when I try to transfer a song to the creative player, I get an error that says, "PTP Layer error 2002: LIBMTP_Send_Representative_Sample(): could not send sample data."

As JohnVV already noted, see if / what Fedora sees when connect your player.

From a terminal, as root

tail -f /var/log/messages

Also, if your lesser known MP3 player is not recognized, it may MTP ?

Have a look at this thread to see if it helps.

Re: Rhythmbox isn't detecting my MP3 players

If that doesn't work (assuming nautilus mounts it under /media), create a text file in the player's root directory called .is_audio_player (note the dot in front of the name):

Code:
name=Eclipse
audio_folders=/,MUSIC/,RECORDINGS/
folder_depth=99
output_formats=audio/mpeg,audio/x-mp3,audio/x-ms-wma,audio/x-wav
That's what I had to do to my cheap mp3 player. Now, it plays fine from rhythmbox (and shows up under 'Devices').

You can 'google' .is_audio_player to (hopefully) find out more.
