Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
I am a newbie, trying to installing fedora 15 from x86_64-DVD.iso for my macbook pro which is i5.
Steps I performed:
1. I install rEFIt on my macbook
2. My HD is 320 GB so I went ahead and made 120 free space from disk utility.
3. When I boot I can rEFit and I do have option to boot from DVD.
4. Fedora 15 boots up from DVD but it doesn't go into installation mode, it gets into grub and I am not sure how to install fedora after that.
Is x64 supported by macbook 8,1? Can anyone help, I would really appreciate.
If possible can anyone guide me how to proceed further? Thanks

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
Does the GRUB screen show any error? Otherwise, you simply have to press enter after selecting the "Install (graphical)" option.

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
Thanks for replying, I don't see any error. It doesn't show any boot options, when ever the dvd loads it goes straight into the grub mode and then when I press tab I see few options but no installation or anything.
I would really appreciate if anyone can help me.

When you are in grub mode, what do you see?

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
When I am in grub mode, all I see is bunch of commands.
I don't know just for no reason the installation process doesn't start and grub is loaded and then I am stuck there.
Commands I see are:
quit
kernel
splashscreen
rootnoverify
read
All grub commands.. How can I go ahead and install fedora from there?

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
It boots from DVD -> EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI
I am not using live desktop, I downloaded the full dvd 64bit that is 3.4 Gb.
DVD loads bootx64.efi and then I get into grub, no installation screen. I believe it maybe due to file partition. I have free space but not sure why I am getting into grub and not getting installation screen.
Has anyone seen this before? Please help as I don't like installing fedora on parallels.

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
If you haven't installed Fedora, your problem can't be a partition problem. Are you sure your download and/or DVD isn't corrupted?

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
DVD isn't corrupted as I burned it on two different discs and still getting into the grub.
I am not sure if macbook pro 8,1 is supported by it? I even tried to install the rhel 6 on my macbook and I don't get the installation screen but only grub.
It loads the boot file but after that I see only grub.
Note: Can you please help? Is there anyway I can fix this as I really need to install fedora or rhel on my macbook pro.

Is there any chance you could provide something like a screenshot? It would help to diagnose the problem (I realise it isn't easy).

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
Please look at the attachment. This is what I get when I load the dvd.
No installation screen, only grub screen. If I press tab then I get bunch of commands.

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
Hmmm, I have absolutely no idea what could be the problem. Do you do anything between booting and entering the grub menu?

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
Nope, it doesn't show anything else. I have no clue how to proceed further? I checked everywhere to fix this issue but have no clue how to.
I presume it might be compatibility issue with Macbook pro 8,1.
Any help would be really appreciated as I don't want to be stuck on the first step.

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
Are you sure that rEFIt is configured to boot from the CD/DVD-drive? If it wasn't, the Grub screen can be explained, but if it is, I have no idea what could be the problem.

Re: Fedora 15 Install Macbook 8,1
I am not sure about it.
Can you please help me how to check if its configured to boot from CD/DVD-drive? Incase its not then how can I do that? I believe you have to hold 'C' when booting up?

I think that might be the issue, as its happening for RHEL and Fedora.
Is there anyway to configure that in the rEFIT config file? Please let me know how to proceed further?
