Gnome-Tweak-Tools

I have Fedora 15 with Gnome Shell running.

I download some themes and have them in the usr/shared/themes folder with the default themes like instructed on the many sites.

I have gnome-tweak-tools installed, but when I go to the section where you choose a theme there is a yellow box with an error saying that I cannot use extensions or do not have any installed or something along those lines. I am sorry I am at work on a Windows 7 PC with no access to the error.

I also installed the gnome shell theme package not sure on the name.

Anyone have any ideas I would like to change the theme?

Also my gnome-tweak tools window is cut off on the right side and I cannot see everything like screenshots i have seen for it. Like some of the on/off switches I can only see half of and the error in the yellow box and about theme extensions is cut off.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: Gnome-Tweak-Tools

1) as said above, you cant use G2 extensions
2) you might miss the gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme, which allows you to easy change among Gnome3 themes.

Further, there are some other gnome-themes available with yum (yum list g*theme*)

Re: Gnome-Tweak-Tools

I am not trying to use any Gnome 2 themes only gnome 3 ones.

However, the option to use them is not working properly in gnome tweak tools.

Re: Gnome-Tweak-Tools

If by themes you mean the theme selector you still have to install the themes individually. There are currently 5 of them for gnome 3. Do

Code:
yum search gnome-shell-theme
To list them.

In Gnome Tweak Tool try clicking on things in the window. Sometimes that makes it resize properly.

http://www.webupd8.org/2011/05/orta-...azing-new.html

Those are all links to the themes I am trying to use and also have screen shots of what the gnome tweak tool should look like and mine is cut off.

Under the interface section I do not have the dropdown to select a theme I have a yellow box telling me I cant use themes and it is cut off on the right side.

Also under extensions it wants me to choose a file there is nothing in there.

Re: Gnome-Tweak-Tools

BTW IMO gnome-shell-extension-theme-seletcor by fpmurphy is much better than gnome-shell-extension-user-theme. The former adds a theme button in the activities area. Clicking an installed theme preview changes it instantly with no shell restart.

Re: Gnome-Tweak-Tools

The interface section is for GTK+ themes, window borders, etc., not for shell themes. Shell themes show up as I described above or under extensions in the tweak tool.

It is Murphy's, and it is in the repo. Lots of his stuff is in the repos now.

Re: Gnome-Tweak-Tools

Thank you somedamfool you have been most helpful.

Do you happen to know a link to a site that gives step by step instructions for downloading and setting up themes and that selector from scratch.

I was using guides from different sites and might have messed something up and need to start from scratch.

Thank you so much man. I love Fedora 15 and Gnome 3 so far I just would like to be able to tweak it a bit.

Re: Gnome-Tweak-Tools

In a root terminal do:

Code:
yum search gnome-shell-
This will list all available themes and extensions. Install the themes you want and to get the previews as in the screenshot I posted also install the gnome-shell- extension-theme-selector.

Restart the shell (Alt+F2 enter r and hit enter) and the themes button should be in the activities area.

BTW if you use Yumex for this it's a bit easier.
