Cannot format usb drive

guys,

i recently experienced a problem with a USB drive (8 GB-Sandisk), which i a cannot format.
If i delete the files it will got to trash but from there it will not go.

Also from properties permission is not granted to change or access the file system.
How can i solve it?
I need to format it.

When you plug in the USB drive, does it show up in nautilus? If so, you should be able to right-click on it and select "Format...", which will show a dialog like this.

when i checked udb drive with dos system it shows that the drive is write protected..is this is the reason?if so how can i change it?

Does it have a switch on the side of it?

I suffered similar experience with my 4GB usb key, but resolved the problem and made it using a HP usb formatting tool or so, see this article, should give newbie some hand.
