Power goes during download

Hi,

I have an unsteady and slow internet connection. If I am using the yum command to install something which happens to be a big download and if the connection gets cut in between or the power is off which is quite common where I am based right now, will the download start from it was cut earlier when I again use the yum command or will it start all over? Thanks.

Or you could let yumex do the updating and only select a portion of the scheduled packages at a time.

If it was in the downloading stage, then you don't need to do the yum-complete-transaction.

and yes, the packages you had already downloaded are still there on your drive, and if you run the yum update again then it will use what you already downloaded and pick up and download the rest of the packages.

Now if it had finished the download and started installing the updates, then do as sonoran shows in the link above and run the yum-complete-transaction.

There still is a slim chance that a package you already downloaded will be updated again in the repos before you run yum again.

In that case, yum will download the new package and you can end up with extra package files on your drive after the update completes. If that happens, then a yum clean all will take care of it and delete the remaining package files. (Do NOT run a yum clean all before completing the downloads and the packages get installed or else you will have to download all of the packages again)
