Fedora 16, x86_64 on Thinkpad T61 with nVidia Quadro NVS 140M.
On nVidia's web page it says their latest driver (Oct.05.2011) for my card is 285.05.09 (Certified, whatever that means).
Searching in Yumex on "nvidia" reveals the following packages:
akmod-nvidia 290.06-1.fc16.3
kmod-nvidia 290.06-1.fc16.3
kmod-nvidia-3.1.0-7.fc16.x86_64 285.05.09-1.fc16.4
kmod-nvidia-3.1.1-1.fc16.x86_64 290.06-1.fc16.2
kmod-nvidia-3.1.1-1.fc16.x86_64 290.06-1.fc16.3
Of these, the third matches the driver number of the latest from the nVidia site. But it appears to be for the original Fedora 16 kernel, 3.1.0-7, not the kernel that I currently have after updates, 3.1.1-1. Yet, before the upgrade to Fedora 16 I had the nVidia driver, and after the upgrade I couldn't get X to start at all due to conflicts between the 290.06-1 driver and other required X components.
Or I could download the driver from nVidia and run the script that comes with it.
What to do?
