Help needed fixing borked Java install

I have tried installing java in several ways, but I still get this:

Code:
java --help
Error: could not find libjava.so
Error: Could not find Java SE Runtime Environment.
My latest attempt has been with oracles install instructions here : http://www.java.com/en/download/help...pm_install.xml

My system is full of java files, both openjdk1.6 and Oraclejava1.7.

I need a hand cleaning up and a reinstalling.

Thanks

Re: Help needed fixing borked Java install

I have removed and reinstalled openjdk from yum, and I still get the same error.

I don't know much about java, but it looks like SE is the development kit of my failed java 7 install.
So I have removed everything and installed Java SE 7 with jdk-7u1-linux-x64.rpm from oracle website.

I still get that error, but now some java apps work without sound and with the following error:

Code:
open /dev/[sound/]dsp: No such file or directory
I cannot find any solution by googling this.

Any help is appreciated

Re: Help needed fixing borked Java install

You need to set up "alternatives" because for Fedora openjdk is the default, but some apps won't run properly with it.

Try following this:

http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...-f16.html#java
