disabling vlc from auto starting

I'm having a problem with vlc.

when double clicking on a device in system monitor, instead of file manager opening vlc opens.

Do you mean in the "File Systems" tab of the GNOME System Monitor? That's weird.

This is an old problem that's plagued Gnome for a long time. Associations have been borked. Search the forum for "Places opens vlc"

Yea, I had the problem awhile back after I opened a DVD folder with vlc and accidently had the box checked to make it the default application.

I had to manually edit a file, but I forget which one it was now. Follow Wayne's advice about searching in here, I know the fix is in here because that's where I found it
