Re: fc16 change login background image
If all went well, you now have phenominal cosmic powers ... which means that you can quite easily screw up the entire system. So ... as they say down here in Texas when playing with rattlesnakes, "Ya'll be keerful now, ya heer!"
At the root prompt (brand), type the following exactly:
Code:
nautilus --no-desktop
That will open a nautilus file browser with root privileges.
Then, just like we did before, "drill" down to the victim file. Once you get there, right click that file, and change the name (rename) to, "old-verne.jpg" It should be pretty self explanatory how to do that. If you have trouble, post again. Otherwise, then you drill back up to the "home" directory, then your home folder, right click and copy the new file. Then drill back down to the proper folder, and paste it there. Once it's pasted, change it's name to, "verne.png."
That should do it, provided that it was indeed a png file. IF it wasn't, then we've got another few chores.
Was it, and are you OK so far?

Dang. That means you either missed a step, or fat fingered something. Re-read the instructions, and try it again.

Re: fc16 change login background image
Yikes! I have no idea what happened there! I expected a single Gtk-message: Failed to load module "pk-gtk-module" error message, but nothing like what you got!
As much as I hate to use it, let's simplify.
In the terminal:
Code:
sudo nautilus --no-desktop
See what that does.

Re: fc16 change login background image
Huh! I dunno what's up with that! Looks like we're going to be doing things a bit different.
We can either work in the terminal, or fetch another file manager to try. Which are you game for?

Re: fc16 change login background image
Ok. Use that like you did nautilus to copy the image you want into the folder we drilled down to earlier. with that file manager, use the "up" arrow to navigate like you did the right arrow in nautilus.
To copy: Locate the file you want, right click it, select "copy".
then drill back down to the />usr>share>backgrounds>verne>default> folder, and right click in that window, and select: "paste". Then right click the "verne.png" file, and select "rename". Name it "old-verne.png". Then right click the file you just moved there, and rename it to: 'verne.png".
Did that all work?

Re: fc16 change login background image
Dunno. Never tried. Just park it there, change the name, and let's see what happens. If it pitches a fit over it, we'll use the GIMP to convert the file.

Re: fc16 change login background image
If you've gotten all that done, close the file manager, exit out of the root terminal, close all your running applications, and log out. Unless we busted something, your new login wallpaper should be there.
