Calendar Integration

Hello All,

Is it possible to tie the desktop calendar to anything other then Evolution in v16?

Our organization uses Zimbra and I'd like to integrate it into the OS in any way possible.

This is my first post, so if I've left out any important info, please let me know.

Re: Calendar Integration

This is how I linked my Thunderbird to the Desktop Calendar, via Evolution, in Fedora 15 & Gnome 3:
  • # yum -y install evolution
  • Switch to Calendar mode in Thunderbird
  • - Menu: Events and Tasks > Calendar
  • - Can't see the calendar list? In Thunderbird window grab the divider on the far left if hidden
  • Export calendar to /home/tecton/.calendar/home.ics
  • In Thunderbird, Create a new calendar and select 'On the Network'
  • Set Location to: file:///home/tecton/.calendar/home.ics
  • Now you can delete your original calendar from Thunderbird
  • Launch Evolution
  • Add a new calendar
  • - Type: On This Computer
  • - Name: home
  • - Customize options: check
  • - File name: browse to /home/tecton/.calendar/home.ics
  • - Refresh: On file change
  • - Force read only: check
  • Changes made to your calendar in Thunderbird will instantly show in Gnome 3

Re: Calendar Integration

Tecton, do you have to install something to get a calendar mode in thunderbird? I have F15 with Thunderbird 8.0 and can't find anything anywhere about calendar in the thunderbird menus or screens.

Re: Calendar Integration

Thanks all for the replies.

mvalcarcel - I can use this to launch Zimbra with the "Open Calendar" button, but doesn't tie the calendar into gnome the way it is with Evolution.

Tecton - This is a clever work around, but still relies on Evolution's integration with the calendar.

I'm looking to do something like this: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/09/googl...tegration.html but with Zimbra. From looking at the script this doesn't seem to be a simple process, so if one isn't already available, I'll have to explore other options.
